The big difference between grilling and searing tuna is that you need intense heat for searing.
Cook the peppercorns in the mixture until they soften and pop about 5 minutes.
Lightly season the tuna steak with salt and pepper on each side then carefully place the steak in the hot pan.
While your grill is preheating you can prep your fish.
Sear the tuna on each side for 1 2 minutes then remove it from the pan and serve.

Using tongs carefully sear the edges of the steaks so that all outer parts of the steaks are seared.

For seared tuna try getting a super thick cut of tuna about three inches thick.
